A LITTLE GIFT TO A NOT-SO-LITTLE CAUSE

Ubuntu House is a safe haven providing temporary care for babies from birth to the age of 2. The babies in their care have either been abandoned, orphaned or born out of an unplanned or crisis-related pregnancy. Since opening their doors in 2003, Naas and Miems Vermaak supported by a small staff complement of carers and assisted by volunteers, have cared for more than 500 little ones, and have worked tirelessly to see them reunited with their biological families or find a forever home, as they refer to it, through the process of adoption.

Ubuntu House is no stranger to the Club Cares initiative, having been chosen as a wish recipient in our ’30 Wishes’ campaign in 2017. More recently, Jean Thomas, Club Travel Ticketing Manager and her 17-year-old daughter, Michaela Thomas began volunteering at the safe house on weekends and shared some of the ongoing needs they have. Club Cares donated some much needed, blankets, vests, wet wipes and teething necklaces to assist the family at Ubuntu House with the sterling work they do. Jean and Michaela delivered the donation on their regular visit to volunteer. They are pictured above with Mrs Miems Vermaak who is always appreciative of any assistance received wearing her best smile.
