In honour of Mandela Day, staff from Marketing, Franchise and HR donated baby items to Bless-a-Baby and spent their 67 minutes assisting with packing uniquely sewed baby bags. The bags, destined for new moms in underprivileged areas, include some essentials like nappies, basic toiletries, clothing, etc. The “Bags of Hope” also include some toiletry essentials for the new mothers.
Bless-A-Baby hand-delivers to hospitals such as Karl Bremmer, Kraaifontein, Wesfleur in Atlantis, Tygerberg, Paarl, Durbanville Clinic, Delft MOU and Mowbray Maternity. By working closely with the sisters and nurses in these public health organisations, they have set up a system where a needy new mom will be identified and “blessed” with the basics when taking her little one home. Bless-A-Baby has been in operation since 2002 and has distributed over 15 000 bags over the past 17 years. The organisation began when a group of ladies heard about babies leaving the hospital wrapped in a plastic shopping bag or without any baby necessities, and were moved to make a positive difference in the lives of these little ones.
