A family home burned to the ground in Phesantekraal outside Durbanville, Cape Town leaving the seven residents displaced … but the community and Club Cares rallied to support them.
In the early hours of Saturday, 15 February a devastating fire broke out at a family home outside Durbanville. Thankfully, neighbours saw what was happening and roused the family. Everyone got out in time and, while no one was injured, the family of seven with four children (including 13-month-old twins), lost everything. For a family who already face many challenges, the fire is a major setback, particularly for the children during the first term of the school year.
The community opened their hearts and swiftly united to support the 27-year-old mother, her husband, four children and mother in law who resided in the home. The mother, who works at a day-care centre in Durbanville, has received donations of clothes, linen and toys from generous parents at the school she works at.
Club Cares stepped in to replace the oldest daughter’s school bag (and all its contents), which was just one of the personal effects lost in the fire. In addition, the was gifted a R5000 voucher for nearby Cape Gate Shopping Centre for any immediate expenses to get back on their feet.
On Wednesday, Club Cares ambassadors visited the family and donated the contributions listed above. Even though the community is pulling together to help the family, assistance is still needed. Club Cares hopes more individuals and organisations will step up to assist the family. Minette Fourie of Club Cares said:“We’ve been inspired by everyone who has come to the family’s aid so far. Any help is welcomed as we continue to uplift the family who were devastated by the fire.”
