The Cape2Rio2020 Ocean Race is proud to associate with South African Airways in delivering a world class ocean yacht race between Cape Town and Rio de Janeiro. These two iconic cities are connected via the ocean and skies over the vast South Atlantic, and the racing fleet of yachts will look up at the sky and follow SAA’s daily return service between South Africa and Brazil during their adventure of a lifetime voyage, which will take them between one to four weeks to complete – depending on the speed of the different boats entered and the weather conditions. This is typically a beautiful warm weather downwind race in the trade winds.
For the many local and international sailors that this race has attracted since 1971, as well as the many family, friends and returning crew, SAA will be a perfect choice to connect into and out of South Africa.
Organised by the Royal Cape Yacht Club, this edition of the race embraces the best international practices in safety standards for boat and crew preparation. There are two starts in Table Bay, under the majestic Table Mountain, on 4 and 11 January 2020, and the Prize Giving dinner will be held at the prestigious Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro, at the foot of the Sugarloaf, on 2 February 2020.
