Love at first flight - fall inlove with travel again!


As announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa on 16 September 2020, the Covid-19 lockdown regulations will be lowered to Level 1 as of midnight on the 20th of September 2020. The lowering of levels to level 1 brings about the following changes in terms of travel: NEW POLICY SPECIFICS: The State of Disaster stays in place until at least 15 October 2020. Travel restrictions are eased as of 1 October 2020 and will be as follows:

  • International travel will be restricted to and from countries depending on their infection rates. A list will be supplied by Government.

  • Travellers will be required to present their negative Covid-19 test results and these cannot be older than 72 hours from their departure from their origin

  • If a negative test isn’t presented, the traveller will have to submit themselves to mandatory quarantine at their own cost

  • If a traveller shows symptoms on arrival in South Africa they will have to submit themselves to quarantine, again at own cost, until a negative test can be produced

  • Only the three main airports; King Shaka, OR Tambo, and Cape Town International Airport will be open to international flights

  • A limited number of border posts will remain open at South Africa’s land borders

  • All travellers will be screened on arrival and will be required to download the COVID Alert SA app.

  • Visa application processes and offices will also resume their operations

  • Existing long-term visas are reinstated

WHAT WILL YOU NEED TO TRAVEL?

  • A negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of departure

  • To wear a mask throughout every stage of travelling and potentially a face-screen

  • The COVID Alert SA app on your cellular device

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE AIRPORT:

  • The following three airports within South Africa will be operational for international flights: King Shaka, OR Tambo, and Cape Town International Airport

  • Make sure to be at the airport 2.5 hours before departure – the new safety precautions take time.

  • Only the passenger will be allowed into the airport – drop-off and pick-up are only permitted outside the airport building.

  • A face mask is required at all times.

  • Check-in online – this minimises contact, queues, and waiting time.

  • Expect and adhere to maximum safety protocols applied throughout your journey.
